Greg uses these techniques during an integrated massage session:
Swedish massage
Techniques Used: Long fluid strokes, kneading, and circular movements on superficial muscle layers. Uses lotion or oil.
What It Feels Like: Smooth, rhythmic, and relaxing.
Best For: Stress relief, improving circulation, and general relaxation.
Myofascial massage
Techniques Used: Slow, sustained pressure applied directly to the connective tissue (fascia). Uses little to no lotion.
What It Feels Like: Deliberate, stretching sensations. May feel like a localized warming or mild pulling.
Best For: Chronic pain, postural issues, and restricted range of motion.
Therapeutic massage
Techniques Used: A combination of Swedish, deep tissue, and trigger point therapy targeted at specific areas.
What It Feels Like: Varied pressure tailored to client tolerance, focusing on releasing specific areas that may be causing issues for a client.
Best For: Targeted issues
Jostling and other vibration based techniques
Techniques Used: Jostling (often categorized under vibration or shaking techniques) is a rhythmic, dynamic technique where the therapist gently shakes or moves a muscle group or joint back and forth. Pacing for jostling technique is gradually changed based on what Greg is feeling to bring his client’s a deeper feeling of relaxation.
What It Feels Like: The movement is free-form and oscillating, like being held and rocked as a baby. The goal is to move the soft tissue around the bone or move the joint within its natural, comfortable range of motion, rather than applying deep, downward pressure. This technique can be applied over clothing without any modifications needed. It feels like a passive, effortless rocking or trembling. It is entirely non-invasive and should never feel jarring, rough, or forceful. Client’s will take comfort in knowing that Greg has very refined sense of rhythm developed over years of percussion and drumming.
Best For: Because the client remains completely passive while their body is moved, it helps the nervous system to let go of subconscious holding patterns. The rhythmic, rocking motion is highly soothing to the nervous system, helping to reduce anxiety and transition a client into a deeply relaxed state.
